Playing with Dominos

Charlotte came up with the idea of doing a domino nail art design. Since her nails are currently short she split the tiles in half so she could pair up whole tiles. She used the tradition colour scheme of black and white.

Paired up dominos

With my nails being a bit longer, I could squeeze in a whole game tile. I used the tradition black background colour but decided to do the numbering with neon colours since we had a neon disco coming up.

We paired up our domino nails at the neon party which went down rather well and we got slightly covered in neon paint ^_^.

Cheers NASA for Spectrachrome technology

I mentioned receiving some awesome colour changing polish which I was itching to use. The polish is one colour indoors with artificial lighting and then via the spectrachrome crystals transforms into another colour in direct sunlight. Firstly I tried out the Ruby Slipper shade which is silver glitter indoors and turns red in the sunlight. In the shade outside the polish turns a bit pinky, however in direct sunlight it turns red, as demonstrated below.

Also the longer it was in the sun, the darker the shade of red it became.

I also tried out the Electrick shade which is metallic blue that turns metallic green. In the image below, the indoor colour is shown of both Electric and Ruby slipper (fourth finger).

Out in the sun this metallic green and dark red was obtained.

I finally added some patterns to the colour changing polish, which involved adding a zig zag design with the Steel Gray holographic polish.

In the sunlight the Electrick polish still turned green successfully regardless of the other polish.

So thank you NASA for creating this rather cool Spectrachrome technology!

This has now sparked an interest in other unique polishes i.e. could there be ones that could glow in the dark?! etc...

Exciting Additions

Apologises for my lack of posts and a belated Happy New Year ^_^ !!

I have quite a few exciting bottle additions that I received as christmas gifts and the three kings gifts, adding to my ever increasing stash!

Overall I received 20 bottles of nail polish... 20 bottles!

Got some useful and interesting nail art bottles that shall hopefully be put to good use soon in teal, 14K, purple shimmer and midnight glitter.

Am rather excited over this rather extravagant polish which claims to have real 18K gold flakes inside it by O.P.I. Thinking it would look good with a contrasting base coat colour and may contribute well towards our romance theme nail ideas for February.

I have mentioned some of the holographic polishes before in my christmas post that are done by Kiko. Luckily I received the rest of the colours as gifts that they currently sell and would highly recommend trying them out as they are now in the sale (£2.40 per bottle), quite a bargain price for holographic polish. The colours they offer are Peacock Green, Jewel Pink, Silk Taupe and Steel Grey.

The ORLY Fired Up collection are a range of fantastically pigmented metallic shades called Flare, Smoulder, Flicker and Rapture. Am really looking forward to thinking up a design that will incorporate these colours together creating a big metallic party. Also received a lovely metallic purple called Cabaret that has light blue undertones and gives of a great shimmer once applied.

These colour changing polishes, that alter their shade are pretty awesome. This is their shades when indoors but when it is exposed to sunlight the colour changes because of the spectrachrome crystals which is a technology apparently invented by NASA for their space program.

The first three shades are Ariel (which changes from aquamarine to purple) , Aurora (which changes from pink to dark pink) and Belle (which changes from yellow to pink). They are really cute however the quality of these are more catered to be used by kids, so their consistency is rather tacky and don't endure for long. However they are good fun.

The large bottles are Electrick (which changes from metallic blue to metallic green) and Ruby slipper (which changes from silver glitter to red glitter). The quality of these polishes are good, have good endurance and a clear top coat doesn't affect the colour changing properties.

Thank you for reading and my next posts shall be trying out some of these newbies.

Marbled Glass

Used: Yellow, clear blue, bright pink, green and black nail polish. A toothpick to apply the black lines.
Inspiration: Wah Nails.
Comments: This was actually easier than I thought it would be, or I've just gotten more used to drawing lines with the toothpick. The biggest challenge was to make the pattern look asymmetric! I think it turned out pretty well though, and I have received several comments on them.

Coming up: Gema's got some posts stashed up and we're doing a "joint design" (or, we're both aiming for the same idea but doing it slightly differently, you'll see).

Half stripes

There hasn't been much activity here for a very simple reason: both Gema and I being in exam period. Because of this we have varyingly kept our nails clean, or with only a single colour. However, today I did get around to doing some stripes. The idea of only doing stripes on half of the nail is taken from Wha Nails, and since I don't own stripers, and don't trust myself with drawing straight enough lines, I went back to using tape. As mentioned in previous post, it's really effective but tricky to cut the pieces right, and for me also to have the patience to let each layer dry for ages.

Gema and I have some plans for the coming weeks, some season related and some others too. We'll keep you posted!
